The SSBC Youth Group has trained and sent out at least one youth team each summer for many years now. This is an incredible opportunity for students to experience trusting in the Lord in a foreign setting while also using their gospel witness to reach younger kids and the community where they travel. One of the key features of the youth mission trips is having the students run a VBS program for young kids in the local area. The students are equipped and supported to take this gospel sharing task and run with it as a fun, impactful outreach opportunity.
The youth team has been going to Montana to run a VBS program and serve the community for about eight years, and additional youth teams have gone elsewhere, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Costa Rica, and Ireland. The teams also get to engage in various work-service projects to help those in local communities.
While we are currently working with interim youth leaders, we will put mission trip training on hold until we fill our Youth Pastor position. For more info on youth missions, contact Dave Kleberg or Scott McLoud.
SSBC youth typically goes on two or three retreats each year. These are great for building relationships and giving more time to focus on spiritual growth.
"Camp Cod" is a fall retreat in September (after Labor Day) at Camp Good News on Cape Cod. This retreat helps to usher students back into the school year and aims to equip them spiritually as they begin the new academic year.
Our Winter Retreat is typically at a camp facility in New Hampshire in January or February. We usually join other youth groups at this camp and have a guest speaker. We hope for snow for outdoor fun as well as enjoy indoor games. It is a unique time used to focus on building up kids in God's word during our time away through the Bible talks and focused discussions. We do not have a winter retreat planned for 2019 while we look for a new Youth Pastor.
