Invitation to come back to church!

 SSBC Regathering Plan

Please read below before attending church in person.

Dear SSBC Family,
It’s time for church! We are excited that the Governor has given us directions for gathering for worship again. SSBC will begin gathering again on Sunday, May 31. Attending church will look very different for the foreseeable future. In fact, it may look different from week to week. As you familiarize yourself with our plans for regathering, I ask that you please be flexible and patient. We have learned in the past months that information is changing daily and long-term plans are silly. So that means these are our plans for now. Here’s what you need to know about our Phase 1 regathering.

  1. There are three options for worship.
8:30 AM at SSBC, 8:30 AM live stream on YouTube and Facebook, and 11:00 AM at SSBC. The live stream will be recorded and posted online for you to watch any time.

  2. RSVP before attending a worship service.
With our sanctuary set up for social distancing, we can seat 175 people. Therefore, you must rsvp for the gathering of your choice by clicking on the links above or by calling the church office by the Thursday prior to the service (781-749-2592).
  3. Sit with your household.
Please sit in the designated pews with only members of your household. The Governor’s order states, “Attendees who are not part of the same immediate household must be seated at least 6 feet apart. Members of the same immediate household are permitted to sit together and less than 6 feet apart.”
  4. Enter through the Free Street doors unless you use handicap parking.
We must count the number of people coming into the building. For this reason, please enter through the main doors facing Free Street. However, if you park in a handicap space on the other side of the building please use the double-door entrance closest to you.
  1. Masks are mandatory.
The Governor’s order requires all attendees to wear face masks in the church. Masks must cover your nose and mouth. Children under 2 should never wear a face mask. Children 2-5 should wear face masks only at their parents’ discretion. Adults with medical conditions that would be complicated by wearing a mask are not required to wear a mask, nor are they required to provide documentation of their condition.
  1. Do not socialize inside the building and do not gather in the parking lot.
When you enter the building please go to the sanctuary. When the service is over please exit to your vehicles. The building must be empty to be sanitized.
  1. There is no childcare or children’s classes.
Plan on bringing your kids into the sanctuary with you. Don’t worry if your kids are loud. Your presence is far more important than decorum. (You can print the kids' activity packet at home and bring it with you. Available here.)
  1. The worship service will be one hour long.
We feel this will best accommodate families with children and those who do not wish to use a public restroom.
  1. Social distancing means some practices disappear for now.
We will not greet by shaking hands or hugging. We will not pass an offering plate but will instead have receptacles in the upper lobby for tithing. We will not pass out bulletins but will provide a digital bulletin for download. We have removed hymnals and Bibles from the pews. We will not take the Lord’s Supper until we receive pre-packaged elements. All other ministry programming remains suspended for now. The church offices remain accessible only by appointment with a staggered staff presence.
  1. You have permission to worship from home.
If you have been sick or around symptomatic people, stay home. If you are not comfortable gathering, please stay home. We understand that many people will choose not to gather in person due to many valid reasons. This is why we are providing a live stream of the service. We are trying to serve those who can gather in the best way possible, and to serve those who can’t gather, equally as well. We will gradually work our way up to full attendance.
  1. Be glad!
We are excited to begin gathering again, but the reality is it will take a while for all of us to return. If you are able to come, our hope is that you can worship in freedom and joy as we gather together in person. For those who will not be here, know we are united by the Spirit, and that we long for the day when our whole church family can celebrate the goodness and the glory of our Lord in person together!

Thank you for your trust in Christ that produces incredible resilience. Thank you for living out Philippians 2:3-4 in the days ahead, considering others more important than yourselves. My heart is happy we can gather again, but my heart won’t be full until we’re all together in the same place. That day is coming. Until then…

See you Sunday,
Pastor Cody
